We have covered tutorials on IoT, IIoT and even Industry 4.0 as part of 3G4G. Recently, Cambridge Wireless (CW), the well known international community for companies involved in the research, development and application of wireless and mobile, internet, semiconductor and software technologies relaunched their Industrial IoT SIG. As part of the relaunch, a refresher webinar was held to explain the concept of Industrial IoT.
All the sessions as well as the Q&A session were fantastic. You can view the resources here once shared. For this blog post, we are looking at the final talk by Sylvia Lu, FRSA, Head of Technology Strategy, u-blox UK, Member of Advisory Board, UK5G.
Let's start with some example use cases on the factory floor that you can see shown in the picture above. Some of the topics that are shown in the picture has been covered as part of other blog posts and are listed at the bottom of this post.
This slide nicely summarizes not only the cellular and 5G standards but also the Wi-Fi technology. There won't be a single technology that will satisfy all scenarios and use cases and it will all depend on many different requirements including the deployment cost, operational expenses, reliability required, etc.
The slide above highlights the three key trends in 5G. As can be seen, there are different 5G technologies to help connect industries in an optimal way. These provides many different tools in the toolbox for anyone looking to go down this route. This also implies that complexity has increased significantly and not all networks will be able to support each of these technologies.
The talk, starting from Sylvia Lu's talk is embedded below. You can jump here to view this from the start.
Do check out all the details from this event on CW page here. A summary of the event is available here.
A blog, recording and presentation PDFs are now available from last week's #IndustrialIoT event. Many thanks to our speakers from @PelionIoT @42Technology @ABBgroupnews and @ublox for sharing their knowledge.
